With activated push notifications you do not really have to worry about whether you might miss a message. However, from time to time it is worth taking a look at a hidden section of the Facebook Messenger app: the news requests. Facebook offers a kind of anti-spam protection and filters out specific messages for you – even if that's not always in your interest. To view message requests in Facebook Messenger, first open the messenger app on your iPhone and tap in the middle of the middle on the person icon (two-person icon). Then go to the upper right corner of the Add contacts icon (symbol with person and plus sign). At the next level, you then tap on the "Request" button at the top

You are now on the Inquiries page. This page contains messages from people you're not friends with on Facebook, but Facebook thinks you might know them. The messages you see here have come to you as normal and you have been notified (via push notifications on your iPhone or directly on Facebook.com).

Accept or ignore message requests

You can now read the messages without informing the sender. Touch a message to display it.

It displays the actual message and some (public) information about the sender. At this point, you have the option to accept a message request by tapping Accept. If you do not know the sender or do not want to communicate with him, you can ignore the request as well.
